HIRO. We are a promise of hope after ABI.
“Hero” is defined as a person who is admired for courage, who has outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Our heroes are our clients, their families, staff and the community surrounding people with acquired brain injuries (ABI).
HIRO’s programs align with ABI evidence-based practices, led by a regulated health care professional, to promote independent living skills and improved quality of life following a brain injury.
DID YOU KNOW?
In Ontario, over 45,000 new cases of moderate to severe brain injuries are acquired each year. Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability for Canadians under the age of 40.
Almost half a million people in Ontario are living with the effects of an acquired brain injury (ABI); totaling a third of the overall ABI population in Canada (approx. 1.5 million).
One person is injured with a traumatic brain injury every 3.5 minutes. The annual incidence of ABI is greater than that of Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer combined.
